Publish to ebook

You can currently export to .pdf, .odt and .docx. These are great for sharing or sending to your publisher. However, we think it would be awesome if you could export to .epub directly out of Novlr. From Novlr to kindle in less time it takes to make a cup of coffee 🙂 That’s the dream.

Publish to ebook will require a bit of work and a lot of testing so is in the pipeline for a little further down the line once some of the editor-focused features are live. However if there is a big demand for it (vote on this page) we will bring it up in priority. We build what you guys want after all.

Various formats sound good – the main ones, like ePub and Mobi would be wonderful additions to the formats already offered. I think these would be used far more than the Smashwords export option.

I’m not sure. I thought the only difference might just be the extension of the file name, but when I send a mobi to Kindle via the Windows Send to Kindle app, it still convert them to azw. Send to Kindle might just edit the file name extension. I don’t really know. 😀

This is a nice feature, and one that I would use, but as long as it is so easy to convert a Word doc to an EPUB this is mostly a convenience.

For me basic EPUB would be enough. I’m going to go into it and tune the code before before converting to anything else or distributing it, anyway.

If the export adheres to the EPUB3 standard, that would be great, and if it has EPUB2 fallbacks that would be ideal. I would just be concerned about how the formatting works and making sure the corresponding XHTML tags map accordingly from the formatting in Novlr.

If you pulled this off in a usable way, it’d be amazing. Absolutely game-changing. This is probably my most desired feature to be added into the oceanic blue waves of ‘in development’.

If it had even simple formatting options, too (like table of contents, a few chapter font and dropcap themes to choose from, and the ability to include hyperlinks and images so we could put our backmatter in – then it would kind of function like Vellum light. That would be amazing!

Partnering with Pronoun would be quite amazing — it is a free service (not sure if it will stay that way?) which converts your book into ebook formats, and will even assist in publishing the ebook to a variety of sites (Amazon, iBooks, etc.)
